10 DPO BFN: Are You Out? Success Stories + Science

A woman scrutinizing a pregnancy test through a magnifying glass in a bright bathroom.

You made it to 10 DPO, peed on the test, and got… absolutely nothing.

Not a squinter. Not a “maybe there’s something there.” Not even a suspicious little shadow you can convince yourself exists after holding the test against the window glass and viewing it from an angle usually reserved for examining diamonds.

Just stark. White. Negative.

And babe, if you’ve already been testing since 4, 5, 6 or 7 DPO because some tiny part of you thought maybe I’ll be the unicorn, that 10 DPO BFN can feel devastatingly final.

But here’s the part we need you to hear before you count yourself out:

No, a BFN at 10 DPO does not mean the TWW is over.

10 DPO can still be early enough for a home pregnancy test to miss a pregnancy. Implantation timing varies, ovulation dates aren’t always as precise as our apps would have us believe, and sometimes there simply isn’t enough hCG in your urine yet for that test to pick it up.

So yes, the thing you’re desperately Googling at 2 a.m. really can happen: a stark negative at 10 DPO can turn into a faint positive at 11, 12, or later DPO.

Can. Not will.

We’re not going to feed you false hope, but we’re also not going to snatch hope away earlier than the science does. Let’s look at why that negative can still change, what those BFN-to-BFP stories actually mean, and when another test will give you a clearer answer.

Bottom Line: A 10 DPO BFN Is Not the End Yet

If your 10 DPO test was stark white today, babe, you are allowed to feel disappointed and still keep a little hope.

Both can be true.

Maybe tomorrow looks exactly the same.

Maybe it doesn’t.

That is the frustrating truth of testing this early: 10 DPO is still soon enough that one BFN does not get the final say.

So put the test down, stop interrogating the bathroom lighting for five minutes, and be gentle with yourself tonight.

You are not silly for hoping.

And no, babe, this story is not necessarily over yet.
